1997 album "Blue Hats" by Yellowjackets is worth listening to.

This particular lineup of musicians creates a very unique feel. This sets the stage for innovative compositions. This period of time did not produce as much great jazz as earlier periods (or even today), but don't let this distract you from the beauty of this outstanding work. This is jazz - a small jazz band - but the sound is so, so large that one might feel surrounded by the music.

In only a few decades, the work of researchers such as Michael Merzenich have obliterated notions of the brain as stable, rigid, and stagnant. The field of neuroscience has been forced to accept a dynamic, shifting, fluid concept of not only personality and psychology, but of of physiology as well. Neural connections which create the networks necessary for thought, motion, and perception are widely accepted as malleable. This is a result of the subject's "thrown-in-ness" into language.

The complexity of the brain is astounding. Different parts of the brain communicate with the entire body to create a live, streaming flow of consciousness. These facts are commonly known and understood.

However, few people understand even the most basic biological mechanisms and processes which manifest through this magnificent organ. This is unfortunate, because even a rudimentary understanding of the brain can create new levels of self-awareness which hold potential for immense self-improvement.
